JoyPDF extracts text and layout blocks locally, then sends text batches (page-limited) to OpenRouter/Gemini for translation - not necessarily the raw PDF binary as one upload, but effectively all translatable content may leave your browser as text to AI servers. Treat as cloud AI processing for compliance. Confidential contracts need legal approval before use. Layout mode sends block-separated strings preserving structure markers.

Will translated PDF look identical to the original?

Layout mode tries to place translated text back into same blocks - German often longer than English, causing overflow or smaller effective font. Text mode prioritises readable flow over pixel match. Images, logos, and colours unchanged. Complex magazines need designer cleanup post-translate. Always review page 1, middle, and last page before sending to clients.

What's the page limit per translation job?

API batches up to ten pages per request with per-page character caps - long documents iterate batches in sequence. Very long books take multiple API round trips and Premium time. Split PDF if you only need chapter translated. Failed batch shows error without silently skipping pages - retry after connection fix.

Are proper nouns and brand names translated?

System prompt instructs AI to preserve proper nouns, URLs, emails, and brand identifiers - but models occasionally mistranslate product names. Manual proofread brand list after export. Legal entity names in contracts must be verified character-by-character.
