How do I split a PDF by page range?

Load the PDF, switch to range mode, and enter segments like 1-8, 9-16, 17-25. JoyPDF creates one download per range - three ranges yield three PDFs. Thumbnails help you verify that chapter breaks fall on the right pages before export. Ranges use 1-based page numbers like most PDF viewers. Gaps are allowed: 1-3, 10 exports two files and skips pages 4-9 unless you add another range. If you mistype a range, the preview list shows how many outputs you'll get. Everything runs locally, so iterating ranges is quick without re-uploading a sensitive file each time.

Can JoyPDF split a PDF into separate files for every page?

Yes. Choose the every-page or selected-pages mode and export - JoyPDF writes one PDF per page (or per selected thumbnail). Handy when a government portal wants each form separately, or when automation expects single-page inputs. A 200-page export produces 200 files, so use desktop Chrome with enough disk space for the ZIP or sequential downloads. Page content stays at source resolution because JoyPDF copies page objects rather than rasterising. For fewer outputs, switch to range mode and group pages instead.

How does split by file size work?

Size mode targets a maximum megabyte count per output - useful when a mail server rejects anything over 9 MB. JoyPDF walks pages in order, packs them into chunks, and starts a new file when the next page would exceed the cap. Optional compression can shrink image-heavy chunks further, with a trade-off in scan sharpness you control. It doesn't magically split mid-page: a single huge poster page may still exceed the limit alone. If that happens, compress the source first or crop the page in Crop PDF. Size splitting is approximate - check each output before sending.

Will splitting reduce PDF quality?

No. Splitting extracts existing page content into new PDF containers - vector text stays vector, embedded images keep their streams. Unlike printing to PDF again, there's no generation loss from the split step itself. Bookmarks and metadata may not carry into every output file depending on PDF structure; the visual page content matches the source. If you split then compress, quality change comes only from compression, not from the cut. Legal teams often split first to share exhibits, then compress only the chunk going by email.

Is my PDF uploaded when I split it?

No. JoyPDF reads the file in browser memory, renders thumbnails locally, and writes new PDFs on your device. Network traffic is limited to loading the app - not your document. That matters for split operations on confidential sources: you often define ranges while viewing sensitive pages; cloud splitters would transmit the whole file including pages you'll never share. Close the tab after download on shared PCs. Private browsing works; unsaved range work disappears if you close before export.

Split PDF is built for producing multiple outputs from one source - ranges, every page, or size chunks - often several files at once.
