Convert PDF to Word
Use this tool directly in your browser with local WebAssembly processing - your files stay on your device unless you explicitly choose an AI feature that sends extracted text to our API. JoyPDF offers a free tier for core PDF tasks and an optional Premium plan for advanced limits and AI-powered workflows.
Convert PDF to Word
Extract text and layout into editable DOCX files.
About this tool
Turn a PDF into a fully editable Microsoft Word document (.docx) without uploading anything. JoyPDF runs the conversion inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your file is read and rebuilt on your own device and never reaches a server. Text, headings, paragraph styles, lists, tables and inline images carry across into a .docx you can open in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. It's free, needs no account, and adds no watermark - handy when you've been sent a PDF and need to change the wording, fix a figure, or reuse the text somewhere else.
What you get
- Output: Microsoft Word .docx, editable in Word 2007 and later, Google Docs, and LibreOffice Writer.
- Carried across: body text, headings, bullet and numbered lists, simple tables, and inline images where the PDF stores them as objects.
- Fonts: if the PDF's fonts aren't installed on your computer, Word substitutes the closest match - the content stays, but the exact typeface may shift.
- Layout: single-column documents convert cleanly; multi-column magazines, footnotes, and complex legal layouts may need manual touch-up after export.
- Scanned PDFs: a PDF made from a photo or flat scan is treated as images, not live text - run OCR PDF first if you need selectable, editable words.
- File size: there's no server limit beyond what your browser can hold in memory; very large files (500+ pages) may take longer on older devices.
When to use
- Editing a contract, report, or proposal that arrived as a PDF and must become a working Word draft.
- Pulling text, quotes, or tables out of a PDF without retyping - especially when formatting matters more than a plain copy-paste.
- Updating an old PDF brochure or policy when you no longer have the original Word source file.
- Reformatting or translating content in Word after a quick, private conversion on your own machine.
Why JoyPDF for this
Most online PDF-to-Word converters upload your file to their servers, process it in the cloud, and email you a link - which is slow for sensitive documents and a non-starter under GDPR or client confidentiality rules. JoyPDF does the same job entirely in your browser: the PDF never leaves your device, there's no account gate, and you get a clean .docx without a watermark. That makes it a practical choice for lawyers, HR teams, and freelancers who need editable output without exposing the source file.
