Common questions

Will formulas remain in the PDF?

No - PDF shows displayed cell values and formatting as rendered pages, not live Excel formulas. Recipients see numbers frozen at export time; they can't recalc by changing cells because there are no cells. That's usually the goal for audit PDFs. If you need both, attach XLSX separately under controlled access and PDF for read-only distribution. JoyPDF doesn't expose formula bar content in PDF text unless it was visible on sheet.

How are wide Excel tables handled in PDF?

JoyPDF scales content to printable page width - many columns shrink font size to fit one page width, which can make dense spreadsheets hard to read. Set print areas, hide unused columns, or split tabs in Excel before converting for legibility. Landscape orientation in source print settings helps if supported in your prep workflow. For 50-column regulatory filings, professional print layout in Excel may beat blind browser convert - always eyeball output.

Does CSV convert to PDF the same as XLSX?

CSV loads as a single sheet of plain data - no multiple tabs, charts, or Excel formatting unless you open CSV in Excel and style it first. JoyPDF still renders rows to PDF pages. Delimiters and encoding quirks in CSV can affect column splits - clean data in Excel then save XLSX for complex layouts. Simple lists and exports convert fine from CSV directly.

Is my spreadsheet uploaded when converting to PDF?

No. Workbook bytes are parsed and rendered in browser memory via local libraries. JoyPDF servers don't receive cell data for this tool. Verify on locked-down corporate laptops if compliance demands proof. Don't leave downloaded PDFs on shared drives without access controls - the output still contains sensitive numbers.

Excel to PDF vs PDF to Excel - when use which?

Excel to PDF freezes a snapshot for sharing - one direction. PDF to Excel tries to extract tables from PDF reports back into XLSX - useful for analyst rework on PDF-only filings, imperfect on merged cells. Can I convert password-protected Excel files?

Password-protected workbooks must be opened and decrypted before JoyPDF can read them - remove protection in Excel first or use Unlock equivalents at source. JoyPDF doesn't crack spreadsheet passwords. After PDF export, Protect PDF can password-lock the PDF if needed. Sensitive workbooks should be unprotected only on trusted machines during convert.
