Common questions

Does cropping delete content permanently?

Crop adjusts visible page box - content outside crop is clipped from view in the exported PDF, not recoverable by end viewers unless they have uncropped source. Unlike redaction black boxes, crop changes page dimensions. Keep original backup before aggressive crops. Legal teams should confirm cropped exhibits still meet standing order margin rules.

Can I crop each page differently?

Yes - per-page crop rectangles handle mixed scans where margin size varies page to page. Uniform scans use apply-all for speed. Switch pages in thumbnail strip, adjust box, export once with all per-page rects stored. Preview each critical page before filing.

Will cropping fix skewed scans?

No - crop is axis-aligned rectangle only. Skewed text remains skewed inside crop. Deskew requires scan apps or manual rotate approximations. Scan to PDF enhancement helps at capture time. Crop after straightening rotation if page is rotated but not sheared.

Is my PDF uploaded when cropping?

No. Crop math and export run in your browser. Sensitive scans never transit JoyPDF servers for trimming.

Crop PDF vs Compress PDF - related?

Crop removes margin pixels - can shrink file size when margins were huge white JPEG areas. Compress re-encodes images without changing crop box. Workflow: crop empty margins first, then compress for email. Crop doesn't help text-only digital PDFs much.

Will cropped pages print edge-to-edge?

Cropped PDF pages print at new dimensions - may fill paper better than uncropped. Printers still apply hardware margins - test print. Bleed requirements for print shops may need extra margin left intentionally - don't crop into bleed zone.
