About this tool

Describe a multi-step PDF task in plain language - 'compress, add page numbers, watermark DRAFT' - and JoyPDF AI Agent plans a toolchain of local PDF operations you approve before execution. Planning uses our AI partner (Google Gemini via OpenRouter) with document excerpt and your prompt; actual merge, compress, OCR, and similar steps run in your browser afterward. Premium feature. Prompt and document text snippet go to AI for planning - not a fully offline workflow.

What tools can the AI Agent chain?

Current chainable set includes compress, repair, OCR, rotate, add page numbers, add watermark, remove/extract pages, protect, unlock, redact, and PDF/A conversion - see agent plan UI for live list. Merge PDF and conversions may require manual tools if not in chain list. Agent returns JSON plan with toolSlug and options per step; invalid slugs rejected at execution. Plans cap at six steps.

Is my PDF uploaded to the AI Agent?

Full PDF binary isn't sent for planning - JoyPDF sends your prompt, page count, and roughly first fifteen hundred characters of extracted text to OpenRouter/Gemini to build plan JSON. That's enough for AI to infer 'scanned' vs 'digital' sometimes, but still leaks document beginning to AI partner. Don't use on secrets policy forbids sharing even partially. After you approve, tools run locally without re-uploading file per step.

Can I edit the plan before execution?

Review screen shows proposed steps - approve or adjust prompt and regenerate if wrong tool chosen. Agent might pick compress when you wanted repair - human oversight required. Re-run with clearer prompt: 'OCR English first, then compress recommended quality'.

Why did agent pick wrong options?

LLM planning interprets natural language - ambiguous 'make secure' might mean protect password or watermark. Specify passwords, angles, watermark text explicitly in prompt. Defaults apply when unspecified - compression recommended, page numbers bottom-centre. Treat agent as junior assistant not infallible ops engineer.

Automations save repeatable rules triggered on upload patterns in JoyPDF account - deterministic. AI Agent is ad-hoc natural language for one-off multi-step jobs with AI planning overhead. Use automations for weekly payroll PDF pipeline; agent for exploratory 'fix this messy scan' requests.
